Enabling Dynamic Services
Dynamic “on-demand” services will soon give users and applications transparent access to the various functions of dynamic lightpaths via a single user interface. This requires expansion of the existing dynamic lightpaths concept and of the infrastructure for authentication and authorisation of SURFfederatie into a generic infrastructure for on-demand services for e-Science.
GigaPort3 will also explore what external cloud services and grids have to offer, and how they can work together seamlessly. This will involve cooperation with such initiatives as SURFworks, the European GRID Initiative, Open GRID Forum, BiG Grid, the Virtual Laboratory for e-Science, the new e‑Science Research Centre, and the COMMIT project.
GigaPort3 also provides applications, Web services, and middleware to give researchers easy network access to resources located elsewhere within the e-infrastructure, for example the Large Hadron Collider or the LOFAR sensor network.
