Mobility and Fixed-Wireless
One aim of GigaPort is to achieve seamless fixed-wireless integration across the country, giving students and staff in higher education and research network access via any mobile or other device, regardless of their location in the Netherlands. A feasibility study has been launched. The seamless connection between the fixed optical fibre network and a wireless network infrastructure will make it possible for users to access the network and the associated sources regardless of time, place, or the device being used. The integration of mobile devices opens up new possibilities for education and research.
Construction of the fixed-wireless seamless network infrastructure will involve collaboration with operators and suppliers of mobile network services. The plan is for the service to be operational by 2015, in collaboration with those parties. Special attention will be paid to identity management, security, and the protection of privacy.
