NetherLight and Global Connectivity

The NetherLight open optical exchange in Amsterdam – developed and constructed by SURFnet – is a central component of a global network of lightpaths. Developments at European level (the FP7 project GN3) mean that NetherLight is becoming increasingly important. GigaPort3 is therefore re examining the architectuur of this GLIF Open Lightpath Exchange.

There is also a major need for direct and flexible links between networks in the various countries so as to be able to offer end-to-end services over a number of networks. Construction of Cross Border Fibre is therefore an important part of the GN3 project.

GigaPort3 is participating actively in these developments.
