SURFinternet
SURFinternet gives higher education and research institutions a fast and reliable Internet connection at 1 or 10 Gigabits per second. IPv6 is of course supported.
What is it?
Fast and secure surfing starts with SURFinternet, the connection to SURFnet’s superfast SURFnet6 network. You can choose a connection with 1 or 10 Gigabits per second, making the connection up to ten thousand times faster than the average ADSL connection. Needless to say, SURFnet6 supports the IPv6 network protocol.
The network also supports Multicast. Multicast is a technology that allows a data stream (real-time multimedia applications) to be transported efficiently by the network from a server to a number of recipients.
Who is it for?
SURFnet connects up all institutions that belong to its target group:
- Research universities
- University hospitals and tertiary medical teaching hospitals (STZs)
- Hogescholen (i.e. “universities of applied sciences”)
- Research institutes and comparable institutions
- Company R&D departments
- Libraries
- Other institutions financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
