SURFfederatie makes it possible to access the online services of a large number of providers with just your own institutional username and password.
What is it?
SURFfederatie makes using online services much easier. You can buy software, consult a commercial database, collaborate on line with other users anywhere in the world, any time and anywhere, using just a single username and password. It doesn’t matter whether you are at the institution where you’re studying, at home, or even on holiday.
It’s not just easy, it’s also secure: your account details are known only to your own institution, meaning more efficient administration and greater user privacy.
SURFfederatie makes collaboration between the organisations connected to SURFnet and providers of information and services as simple as possible. It offers both a set of agreements – “federation policies” – and a technical infrastructure.
Who is it for?
Institutions connected to SURFnet can sign up with SURFfederatie as an identity provider. Their users can then utilise the online services offered by service providers.
Institutions can also offer services themselves, meaning that they are not just an identity provider but also a service provider.
