Registration now open for “Enlighten Your Research 3”

Utrecht, 16 March 2011 – With SARA, BiG Grid, and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), SURFnet is organising the “Enlighten Your Research” competition for the third time. This year’s competition invites researchers to submit proposals from cross-institutional partnerships that will benefit from a high-quality network connection between sites where e-Research facilities are located. This includes advanced services such as supercomputing, grid, visualisation, and large amounts of data storage. The deadline for submitting proposals is 12 May 2011.

Partnership
This is the first time that the organising parties have joined forces in this way. By contributing their expertise, infrastructure and services, they are making a combined effort to raise the standard of research in the Netherlands. Their unique partnership allows researchers to use a seamless connection between various infrastructure services for easy and efficient collaboration.

Prizes
Competing researchers can win data storage, computing time, advanced network connections, and support for implementation. The winners will also receive a maximum cash prize of EUR 20,000. This year, there will also be an additional sustainability prize for the most energy-efficient proposal.

Information meeting
SURFnet, SARA, BiG Grid, and the NWO are holding an information event about the Enlighten Your Research competition on 31 March 2011. Those attending will receive information about the competition and an explanation of the services that researchers can utilise in their research. Two previous winners will also give a presentation about their research.
