SURFnet publishes Cloud Security Checklist

Working with Gartner and SURFibo, SURFnet has drawn up a “Cloud Security Checklist”. Education institutions can use it as a guide for switching securely to the use of cloud services.

More and more education and research institutions are discovering the possibilities of cloud computing: Google Apps and Microsoft Live@edu are examples of services where resources are shared by a large group of end users. Acquiring services within the cloud has advantages but it also involves challenges, for example as regards control of resources and security.

The Cloud Security Checklist can help education institutions to make use of such services. It comprises questions and processes that the client must fill in and indicates the aspects that suppliers of cloud services must watch out for.

The Checklist has been drawn up by the ICT staff at education and research institutions that utilise cloud computing (or plan to do so).
